Waterline – Cruising Photography 1925-70

Cruising the seas of the world became a pleasurable pastime for many after the First World War; mysterious, luxurious and decadent, it was a rich pursuit full of discovery. The Waterline exhibition at the National Maritime Museum fuses together beautiful photography with British nautical history, showing the finest images from the Maritime Photo Service collection. The company, founded by photographer Gilbert Morgan Morris in the 1920s was the first of its kind, offering a photo service at sea where images were developed on board. It vividly evokes the atmosphere of the period, and alongside candid shots of the glamorous social life on board, it presents fascinating images of the exotic locations and foreign climes visited by the liners.  With inspiration from all over the world, it is a worthwhile visit.
