What is What Happens in London?

This blog aims to demonstrate the far and wide ranging creative opportunities available in London. Be it exhibitions, designer show rooms, market stalls, new shops or pop up projects, it all contributes to the hub of activity pushing forward the fashion and arts industry in our fair city. It is about London from a Londoners point of view. I have lived here all of my life and although I wouldn’t say that I have lived a sheltered existence, I definitely don’t make the most of all the events, places and sights that London has to offer. Therefore I have decided to explore and become a tourist in my own city.

I spent the summer of 2010 travelling through South East Asia and swore by the Lonely Planet in every country I visited, seeking out the best things to do in each one. This project started when I realised that during my twelve weeks in South East Asia, I saw more cultural attractions, tasted a wider range of food and tried my hand at more activities than I have in two decades of living in London.

The great north/south divide is never something which has greatly struck me as being true in any way; however when I think about it, I spend the majority of my time in South London (read South East London – Crystal Palace, Greenwich, Blackheath and Herne Hill to be precise). So, I will be venturing north of the river to the alien territories of Notting Hill and Camden as well as trying to go to a few more places southside.

I hope to discover and explore more of the things that I like to do, and possibly discover some new interests that I was unaware of before! For each post, I will write what I went to see, where in London it was, who I met and how it has affected the way I think, or changed my opinions. Therefore I will be going to events that I would never have considered before.

The only rule is that the places I visit have to be within the M25, which leaves me with a lot of scope for some positive character development.

  1. Hi, I’m currently looking for writers for a new start-up website about London – I’d like to know if you’d be interested in contributing periodically?
